The dawn of commerce department was on 27th August 2009. From the very first beginning the department of commerce is striving its best for the development of young minds who wish to flourish in the field of trade and business epoch.
The department of commerce is devised with the Undergraduate and Post Graduate Programmes within its banner. It consists of well-potential faculty members doing their best for the upliftment of the students’ community.
During 2009-10 the students of commerce department secured 100 percentage result (first semester) in General English, Business Organisation, Office Automation and Environmental Studies. Again in the second semester the students scored 100 percentage result in Financial Accounting, Business Management, Programming in C, Office Automation Lab, C Programming Lab and Manavalakalai Yoga. Sr. Leema Rose was the class topper for both the semesters.
The academic year 2010-11 was a challenging year for the students of the department, where in they focussed on their studies and extra-curricular activities. Students were continuously motivated to participate in the inter-collegiate programmes hosted in other colleges.
In 2011-12, the faculty members of the department felt the need for participation in various faculty development programmes and they took part in the same. Mr. S. Prabin, Assistant Professor of the department participated in the two days’ workshop hosted by the Manonmaniam Sundaranar University, Tirunelveli on 20th and 21st February 2012. Another faculty member, Dr. R. Sivanesan, attended the meeting for RRC programme Officers organised by the Manonmaniam Sundaranar University, Tirunelveli on 12th September 2012.
Sis. Leema Rose, student of B.Com with CA (2009-2012 batch),secured 17th Rank in Manonmaniam Sunadranar University Examinations.
The year 2012-13, has been a prolific year to the department of commerce as it saw lots of achievements in the field of academics. The students of final year B.Com with CA attended the National Level Seminar on ‘Campus to Corporate’, organised by the department of commerce, Holy Cross College, Nagercoil in collaboration with LEXETA, Nagercoil on 24th January 2013. The students of the department participated in the District Level Competition organised by the District Youth Red Cross at ST Hindu College, Nagercoil. M. Deepak of final year B.Com with CA, won the First prize in English Elocution Competition. D. Daniel Prakash of Second year B.com with CA, won Third prize in English Elocution Competition on 30th July 2013.
On 5th August 2013 the Post Graduate Programme in Commerce came into first-light for the development of young minds in and around the district.
M. Deepak of final year B.Com with CA, participated in the State Level Competition hosted by Indian Red Cross Society, Chennai in remembrance of 64th Anniversary of Geneva Conventions and he won Second prize which was promulgated by the Governor of Tamilnadu on 17th August 2013.
During 2013-14, the department organised a National Seminar on “Contemporary Marketing – Prospects and Challenges”. Fr. A. Suvakkin, Correspondent of the college, presided and released logo of Commerce department. Dr. A. Amalraj, Principal of the college, inaugurated the seminar.Fr. Lourdusamy, felicitated the gathering and Dr. P. Geetha, Head, Department of Commerce and Centre for Research, S.T. Hindu College, Nagercoil, delivered the keynote address. Ninety students participated from various colleges of the state. Dr. G. Maheshkuttalam, Professor of Management Studies, Manonmaniam Sundaranar University, Tirunelvel and Dr. T. Narayanan,Professor, Management Studies, Alagappa Government Arts College, Karaikudi were the Guest Speakers.
Dr. R. Sivanesan of the department, published thirteen research papers in International Journal and he was selected as the Editorial Board Member of International Journal of Research in Management and Business Studies.
R. Nandisha, student of B.Com with CA (2010-2013 batch), secured 10th Rank in Manonmaniam Sunadranar University Examinations.
In 2014-15, the students of the department participated in the National Seminar on ‘Talent Management’ organised by the department of Commerce, Holy Cross College, Nagercoil on 23rd January 2015.
Fifteen students of the department participated in the National Level Symposium on ‘GreenB – 15 innovation for healthy business’, hosted by the Department of Management Studies , Noorul Islam College, Kumarakoil on 13th February 2015. J. Antony Roshan and Robert Morais of final year B.Com(CA), won First prize in Paper presentation. Sr. Salma, Sr. Punitha, C. Paulraj, S. Micheal and S. Puzhalendhi secured Second prize in Adzap competition.
The students of the department participated in the Exbita’1.1, symposium organised by Department of Management Studies, St. Xaviers College, Chunkankadai on 13th March 2015.A. Antony Vino and M. Ajay of final year B.com (CA), won Second Prize (Rs. 1000 cash award), for Business Quiz Competition.
Mr. W. Jose Renold and E.J. Nixon, faculty members of commerce department partook in the Career Enhancement Fest (NET training programme), organised by department of commerce,St. Johns College of Arts and Science, Ammandivilai on 13th August 2015.
The department of Commerce organised one day seminar on Statistical Tools for PG students of the department on 21st September 2015.< Dr. V. Ramalakshmi, Holy Cross College was the Resource Person for the day. On 25th September 2015, Ms. N.Abinaya and J. Jesmi Maximus, PG students of Commerce participated in the National Seminar on ‘Labour and Employment Scenario in India’, hosted by Department of Commerce, S.T. Hindu College, Nagercoil.
The students of the department participated in the National Seminar on Financial Literacy –Issues and Strategies ‘CASCON FIESTA-2015’, hosted by the Department of Commerce with C.A of Malankara Catholic College, Mariagiri. The students participated in various competitions.Pradeep Nithin of III B.COM with C.A won first prize in the event of Tagline Making, and Celin Mesmine Janifer, Antony Shaju Mon, Pradeep Nithin, Josva Theethu of III B.COM and Albert of II B.Com won First prize in the Product Launch competition.
Students of the department attended the competitions like elocution, dance, acting and essay writing conducted by Veeramamunivar Pechala Peravai. V. Praveen Kumar of II B.Com with CA won First prize in solo dance.
The students and faculty members of the department visited Charles Orphanage Home. Further, the students interacted and played games with them. Gifts were shared to the children and entertainment programmes were hosted which was followed with a fellowship lunch.
Many intellectual events beneficial to the young minds were hosted in the campus, by the department of commerce, during the academic year 2015-16. A workshop on Industrial Law was organized by the Department of commerce, Advocate, .S.Jeya Rani, presented a talk on ‘Payment of Bonus Act, Payment of Gratuity Act and ESI Act’ on 5th February 2016. A workshop on Interview Skills was organized by the Department. Mr.A.Maria Dasan of LEXTA English and Soft skill Academy presented a talk on interview skills and group discussion on 10th February 2016,
An industrial visit, was organised by the department on 12th February 2016, to Oil Palm India Limited, Anchal. On 20th February 2016, students of the department were taken to Thiruvanathapuram for picnic. On 2nd March 2016, the PG students of the department, attended a workshop on ‘Preparation for NET/SET Exam’, organized by the Department of Commerce, Holy Cross College, Nagercoil.
J. Antony Roshan of 2013-15 batch,secured 15th rank in Manonmaniam Sundaranar University Semester Examinations.
N. Amala Nishanth and M. Ins of the department participated in National Level Technical Symposium, ‘Software Intelligence’ held at CSI Institute of Technology, Thovalai and won third place with Rs.500 cash award, for Short Film Editing Competition on 23rd September 2016.
On 3rd October 2016, Mrs. Annie Shyla and Mr. R. Rakesh, faculty members of the Department participated in one day seminar on ‘SPSS Package’ held at Manonmaniam Sundaranar University.The students visited the charity Home ‘George Muller Children’s Home’ on the view of Christmas day celebration and contributed Rs. 23,250 for the poor and needy children.
During the academic year 2016-2017, the department of commerce stood active throughout the year for the betterment of the student community. Mrs. A. Annie Shyla, Assistant Professor of Commerce, presented a paper on “Economic Role of Government in Business” in an International Conference held at Rani Anna Government College for women on 29th January 2017. Students of the department participated in the workshop on ‘Demonetisation of Indian currency and its impact of Indian Economy’ held at Holy Cross College (Autonomous), Nagercoil on 20th February 2017.
On 23rd Feb 2017 S. Suganya and S. Abisha of II B.Com participated in One day International Conference on “Cashless India” held at Holy Cross College, Nagercoil. On 27th Feb 2017, students of the department participated in Inter Collegiate Cultural Festival ‘Sangamam 17’ held at Noorul Islam College of Arts & Science, Kumaracoil. A. Sahaya Aswin of II M.Com participated in State Level Technical Symposium “Symphony 17” organized by Dept. of Commerce Noorul Islam Arts & Science College and won Second prize in the Treasure Hunt Competition on 2nd March 2017
On 23rd Feb 2017, S. Anith Rojin of III B.Com participated in the National Level Management fest “YUVA 2K17” Organised by Dept. of Management Studies, Nesamony Memorial Christian College and won First prize in the Dance Event. On 10th Feb 2017 students of the department participated and . A. Aldrin, III B.Com presented a paper in National Seminar on “Perspectives for Modern Marketers” held at St. Alphonsa College of Arts & Science.
On 10th Feb 2017 Mrs. J. Rejila Jeba Deena, Asst. Prof of Commerce presented a paper on “An Overview on Opportunities and Challenges in Rural Marketing and Mr. R. Rakesh, Asst. Prof of Commerce presented a paper on “ A Study on Importance of Building customer relationship management in E-Marketing towards customer satisfaction. On 10th Feb 2017, A. Sahaya Aswin of II M.Com participated in the Scottia Musical Fest’17- Singing competition at Scott Christian College, Nagercoil and won First prize.
V. Praveen Kumar of III B.Com participated in Solo Dance at ‘MAR FESTA’17, Mar Ephram College of Engineering and Technology on 13th February 2017.
On 17th March 2017, V.S. Sowmi, N.G. Sahaya Jenisha, J. Remya and P. Hamsiya of III B.Com participated in National Level Management fest“XIBITA 3.1” Organised by the Department of Management studies in Association with Xavier’s Management students Association (XMA). On 16th March 2017, One day Guest Lecture was conducted by VIVA Health Science Pvt Ltd. On “Entrepreneurship” by Nishael for III B.Com students.
The Management of the college, congratulated Mr. R. Rakesh, Assistant Professor of Commerce,for clearing SET Examination for Lectureship held on 21st Feb 2016 at Mother Teresa Women’s University, Kodaikanal.
On 21st March 2017 the students participated in State Level Collegiate carnival conducted by Department of Commerce with Computer Application, held at Noorul Islam College of Arts & Science, Kumaracoil and won First prize in Executive Parade , (Aldrin, Amala Nishanth, Suresh Raja, M. Ins, V. Praveen Kumar, M. Sahaya Aswin) and I. Xavier Clinton of I B.Com & Sahaya Aswin of II M.Com participated in Business Quiz.

On 22nd August 2018 the dept. organized an industrial visit for final year students
On 5th October 2018 organised a industrial visit to TVM Planetorium.
On 21and 22 Feb 2019 three students from II M.Sc along with a staff participated a national seminar on pure and applied mathematics organised by the department of mathematics, Annai Velankanni College, Tholayavattam, Karungal.
On 24 th February 2019 two students from II M.Sc Namely S.A. Marina Shamlin and P.A. Francis Femina Petrise ,participated one day international seminar on “ Network Modeling by graphs and synthetic approach in pattern recognition. Organized by department of mathematics Holy Cross College.
On 7th February 2019 department of mathematics organised one day national Conference on “Recent Trends in Mathematics” Over 400 students from various colleges participated in this event.
On 20th February 2019 department of mathematics of Nanjil Catholic College, Kaliakkavilai organised one day national seminar on “ Recent trend in applicable mathematics” Students of II M.Sc went to participate it.
On 22nd February 2019 the II M. Sc students participated one day seminar on “ Advanced topics in Fuzzy System” organised by Department of mathematics St .Teresa Arts and Science College.
